Individual Real Estate Agent Websites
Do you need an individual real estate agent website? In today’s world, we already know that most homebuyers begin their home search online. Because of this, most real estate brokerages have a company website that lists the agents who work for the firm and the current listings they have available. A company website represents the company in the absence of face-to-face interaction and conveys professionalism, size, and expertise. But, is that what buyers are really interested in? Are they looking for a professional company or a professional individual?
Recent reports and blogs suggests that buyers and sellers are more interested in the particular individual they work with versus the company itself. So, with that said, does it make sense for individual real estate agents to have their own separate website dedicated to their specific expertise and listings? Perhaps it does.
Individuality. A separate website allows the individual agent to distinguish themselves from other agents in the company and convey their individual experience and expertise with certain types of transactions or within a given geographical area.
IDX Integration. Whether you decide to have a full website or just a blog, choose a platform that allows integration with IDX – Internet Data Exchange, also known as Broker Reciprocity. This allows for certain MLS information to be displayed on your website and allows potential buyers to review your specific listings.
Social Media. Websites are more flexible and can include integration with IDX resources, blog capability, etc. A social media page, like Facebook or Linked In, isn’t sufficient to take the place of individual agent websites.
Go Mobile. Ensure your website is compatible with mobile devices. Many people use their tablets and smartphones instead of sitting in front of a computer.
Liability. Brokers who allow their agents to have a separate website from the company should develop a internet/website policy that outlines what agents should and shouldn’t put on their websites. A policy and procedures manual related to websites can help ensure the individual(s) are still portraying the overall company brand and professionalism.
